Weekend Notes: Roberto Duran, Ricardo Lopez, and Pernell Whitaker become the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth fighters to be elected in their first year of eligibility. The Hall of Fame commemorated the 50th anniversary of Carmen Basilio's winning the world middleweight championship from Sugar Ray Robinson at a special "Night of Middleweights." Hall of Famer Gene Fullmer was also celebrated for his 50th anniversary win over Sugar Ray Robinson. Other middleweights highlighted were Hagler, Duran, Barkley, Antuofermo, Griffith and Minter. Ringside lectures were given by John H. Stracey & Alan Minter, Ricardo Lopez, Don Chargin, Carlos Ortiz, Livingstone Bramble & Bert Sugar, and George Chuvalo & Bert Sugar. A public workout session was conducted by Oscar Diaz and Tommy Brooks and Bert Sugar also held a book signing.
