In an upset, Slovenia's Jan Zaveck, fighting out of Magdeburg, Germany, scored a third round stoppage of Isaac Hlatshwayo of South Africa to win the IBF welterweight title.
Zaveck decked Hlatshwayo in the second, and twice in the third with overland lefts. The referee stopped the contest at 2:55 of round three. With this win, Zaveck, now 25-1, 16 kayos, earned an immediate rematch with Rafal Jackiewicz of Poland, who split decisioned Zaveck in a 2008 12 round European title bout in Poland (Zaveck's only loss) and is the IBF's # 1 contender.
