Jem Roche was another victim of Tommy Burns when Burns was on his world tour, fighting the best heavyweights around the world. Eager to silence his critics, Burns fought the champions of Britain, Australia, Africa, America. Jem Roche was one of those, and was at the time the champion of Ireland. Roche was easily beaten by Burns, stopped in only 88 seconds. Despite the loss, Roche was a very good fighter and a top contender of his day.

Roche coached the Wexford football team in the 1910s.
