Jesus Rivero is a Mexico based trainer, best known for training Miguel Canto, WBC Flyweight Champion from 1975 to 1979. Rivero became the trainer of Oscar De La Hoya in 1996, handling him through fights against Julio Cesar Chavez, Miguel Angel Gonzalez, and Pernell Whitaker. Rivero was known for developing the defensive skills of his fighters. Canto is widely recognized as one of the best defensive fighters of his era, and De La Hoya also showed a more defensive oriented style during his tenure with Rivero. He was fired as De La Hoya's trainer in 1997, when De La Hoya began working with Emanuel Steward, a trainer known for being more offense oriented.
