In 1948 Joe Castaneda of of Chicago, IL made the final of the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions, the verdict was awarded to Robert Holiday of Cincinnati, OH flyweight.

In 1949 he made the final of the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions, the verdict was awarded to Arthur Brown of Kansas City, MO at flyweight.

In 1951 representing Chicago he won an Intercity Golden Gloves' title at flyweight vs. Charles Toomer at 2:45 of the 3rd.
