Joe Cumo was the manager of Pennsylvania heavyweight Emmett Rocco. It was Cumo who first interested Rocco in the sport, and trained him in some of his early engagements.
Cumo died on January 7, 1930, at just 28 years of age to what was described as "leakage from the heart and complications" a condition he had suffered with since childhood. He was survived by his wife and two children. In his final months, he enlisted Jimmy Dunn to assist in managing Rocco.
