The WBA Super Featherweight title changed hands, as challenger Juan Carlos Salgado of Mexico scored a first round technical knockout of Jorge Linares of Venezuela in Tokyo, Japan. Salgado, now 22-0-1 with 16 kayos, came forward aggressively at the opening bell and decked Linares, in his fourth defense, now 27-1 with 18 kayos, with a picture perfect powerful left hook. Linares got right back up, and then Salgado attacked with a nonstop barrage of left and right jabs to the head and body of Linares and flattened him, prompting the stoppage. " I had never thought I could knock him out early. I think I was able to fight (so well) by maintaining my motivation," said the new champion after the bout. The 73 second win was the first world title bout in Japan to end in the first round since Tsuyoshi Hamada defeated Rene Arredondo in 1986.
