The light middleweight division was first created by the New York Walker Law in 1920. The division was universally accepted by the Austrian Boxing Council and European Boxing Union (EBU) in 1962. Re-introduced by the National Boxing Association (NBA) in 1962 (1956?), covering weights between 147 and 154 lbs. This weight class can be divided into two historical periods: 1956-1962 and 1963-present.
