Laila Ali overwhelmed Mary Ann Almager to notch her eleventh win at the Louisville Gardens in Louisville, KY. Ali overwhelmed her opponent over four rounds before a well-placed right hand to the body left Almager doubled over on the ropes, gasping for air and unable to continue.

Fighting in her legendary father’s hometown Ali, 167lbs, dominated the action from the beginning with superior speed, landing combinations with a high rate of accuracy. At 34 years old, the shorter Almager looked less fit at 168 pounds but proved resilient nonetheless. She traded with Ali on several occasions and dug in for some sustained toe-to-toe trading in the fourth before absorbing the fight-ending blow to the body.

With the seconds winding down in the fourth, a straight right hand on the beltline landed with full force by Ali. Almager grimaced, and folded over visibly winded. After a brief count by the referee it was clear she was unable to continue.

Ali remains undefeated with a record of 14-0. The knockout against Almager was her tenth as a professional. The game but overmatched Almager drops to 14-6 (9 KO’s)
