Mark Grossinger Etess Award

The Mark Grossinger Etess Award was presented to the "Boxer of the Decade" for the 1980s. Boxing journalists from around the United States voted to determine the top 12 boxers of the decade. The finalists were announced on October 21, 1990. Once the candidates were determined, a 900 number line was established for boxing fans to phone in their choice as the decade's premier pugilist. The proceeds from the calls were donated to the Etess Foundation, a fund for needy boxers. The award presentation was in Atlantic City, New Jersey on December 7, 1990. The nominees were:

Mark Grossiner Etess was President and Chief Operating Officer of Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort. He died October 10, 1989 in a helicopter crash. He was traveling back to Atlantic City from New York City following a press conference for the Hector Camacho vs. Vinny Pazienza fight.
