In the main event of a ten bout fight card at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Mike Jones retained the NABA and NABO welterweight titles with a fifth round knockout of challenger Irving Garcia which ended in controversy. Jones landed a bad low blow at 1:12 referee Randy Neumann didn't see, due to the angle of his position at the time the punch was thrown. Garcia got counted out at 1:22 despite the low blow. The outcome of this bout will be appealed to the New Jersey State Athletic Commission. Jones had cornered Garcia and unleashed a series of ten right hands and left hooks, ending with a low blow left hook to the crotch, sending Garcia down on one knee where he was counted out.
