"Rafael Herrera won the vacant WBC bantamweight title by stopping countryman Rodolfo Martinez in the 12th round of a fight in which Herrera was knocked down and bloodied. But the new champion knocked down Martinez twice in the 4th round and two more times in the 11th, then battered him helpless in the 12th. Herrera, who bled from the nose almost from the start of the scheduled 15 rounder, was knocked down in the 8th round and twice during the bout was examined by the ringside physician because of a cut over the right eye." -Associated Press
