Career Review

Reiner Hartman was a promising German heavyweight, based in South Florida, and trained by the legendary Angelo Dundee.

Hartman had an impressive amateur log, which included winning the German Amateur Heavyweight Championship in 1979. He turned pro in Miami Beach, Florida, and trained at the 5th Street Gym.

Hartman worked as a sparring partner for Muhammad Ali, when Ali was in training for his match with Trevor Berbick.

German sources list Hartman's professional boxing record as 25-6-3, with 11 knockouts. He lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with his wife Jaqueline and his two daughters.

Hartman worked in the sunglasses business, and seemed to be living a successful life after boxing. On April 11, 2003, Hartman committed suicide by shooting himself in Weston, Florida after separating from his wife.
