1952-04-21 : Rocky Marciano 189¾ lbs beat Gino Buonvino 196¾ lbs by KO at 1:35 in round 2 of 10

  • Location: Rhode Island Auditorium, Providence, Rhode Island, USA
  • Referee: Sharkey Buonanno

The Providence Journal reported that Marciano "never punched more sharply and with such power as he showed last night. He was a tiger and relentless in his attack."

Buonvino landed a terrific right to the jaw midway through the first round, one of the hardest punches Rocky ever stopped. Gino landed another powerful right in the second, but his decision to punch it out with Marciano was fatal to his chances.

The final exchange in the second round ended with "a vicious looping right to the jaw" of the Italian heavyweight, which put him down for the full count. "We told him to box as he did in the first fight (with Marciano)," his cornerman said, "but he slugged it out and paid the price."

Attendance was 4,392 and the gross gate was $12,142.
