Steven A. Allred is a former amateur lightheavy-/heavyweight from West Virginia, winning the WV USA/ABF light heavyweight and heavyweight championships in the early 1980s. Turning professional, Allred fought mostly in the West Virginia/Virginia/North & South Carolina areas. With a respectable amateur career behind him, Allred went on to win the West Virginia State light heavyweight title with a ten round split decision over Phillip Blevins of Princeton, West Virginia in a bout held in Charleston, West Virginia in 1985.
Allred worked for many years as an official in the West Virginia USA/ABF Boxing Association, serving as Chief of Officials for many years, and as President of the local boxing association for two years. Officiating literally thousands of amateur bouts on a local, regional and national level, Allred was one of the most experienced officials in the amateur ranks in West Virginia.
In 2000, then West Virginia Governor Cecil H. Underwood asked Allred to serve on the West Virginia Athletic Commission. He has been serving on the commission since this time, and has represented the commission as their Chairman since 2003.
