  • The Associated Press reported: "Leonard scored the only two knockdowns of the lopsided fight. He floored the five-foot-three Ramon with a right hand just before the end of the first round. Leonard was credited with another knockdown in the fourth, but Ramon complained that he had been tripped. Leonard tried desperately for a knockout in the final round, hitting Ramon with countless combinations. But the game Texan preserved his record of never having been knocked out."
