Correction needed, Baker was also Pittsburgh inter-city heavyweight champion in 1948 & 1949.
Baker 1948 & 1949
What you’re probably referring to Baker was the District Golden Gloves champion of his designated region which encompassed Pittsburgh. As of now there is not a category for district Golden Gloves champions on BOXREC. Usually district champions from the Pittsburgh area represented Pittsburgh at the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. In Philly in the past the district Golden Gloves champions were awarded the Diamond Belt and usually represented Philadelphia at the New York Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions. May I suggest you research to see if any newspaper sponsored a Diamond Belt Tournament in Pittsburgh and see if what you’re referring to as Pittsburgh Intercity championships are district championships, more than likely that is what they were. --User:Bert 06 November 2010
