Ike Spider Weir vs. Jack Williams on March 10, 1887: "Billed World 124lbs featherweight title"

George Dixon vs. Cal McCarthy on February 7, 1890: "Dixon claimed World Featherweight title"

Johnny T Griffin vs. different opponents on different dates in 1892/93: "Billed for the World Featherweight title"

George Dixon vs. Frank Erne on November 27, 1896: "Dixon continued to claim the title even after this loss to Erne with his title at stake in championship conditions"

Ben Jordan vs. different opponents on different dates from 1897 until 1902: "Billed as for the British version of World Featherweight title"

Ben Jordan vs. Eddie Santry on October 10, 1899: "Santry took over Jordans claim to World Featherweight title at 124 lbs"

Young Corbett II vs. different opponents on different dates in 1903/04: "Corbett defends his Featherweight World title at 130 lbs but Abe Attell is now recognized as the true World Featherweight champion at 122lbs"

Abe Attell vs. Johnny Reagan on June 23, 1904: "Some reports call this a "Light Featherweight title bout." Both fighters made 122lbs ringside"

Abe Attell vs. Jimmy Walsh on February 22, 1906: "Attell regained or defended his American Featherweight Title, according to some sources. Clarification needed"

Jim Driscoll vs. different opponents on different dates from 1908 until 1911: "Billed as for the British version of World Featherweight title"

Abe Attell vs. Frankie White on March 26, 1909: "Quite possibly a title fight as reported in the 'Milwaukee Free Press' newspaper"

Abe Attell vs. Eddie Marino on August 22, 1910: "Although sometimes recorded as a title fight the match was made at the lightweight limit."

Abe Attell vs. Johnny Kilbane on October 24, 1910: "Need confirmation men made the weight"

Jim Driscoll vs. different opponents on different dates in 1912/13: "Billed for Driscoll's British and European versions of World Featherweight title"

Johnny Kilbane vs. K O Mars on October 30, 1913: "According to the Dec. 3, 1924 Tacoma News-Tribune, this was a title bout, and Mars was considered perhaps the youngest ever to have fought for a title. However, the title would have only been at risk in a newspaper decision fight."

Johnny Kilbane vs. Eddie Wallace on March 26, 1917: "This fight was recorded by the Ring Record Book as being for the title but it was never reported as such by local newspaper the Boston Daily Globe."

Benny Bass vs. Red Chapman on September 12, 1927: "PA Featherweight World Title; PA was going to seek recognition by NYSAC and NBA -- apparently at some time after the bout the NBA gave recognition to Bass"

Battling Battalino vs. Freddie Miller on January 27, 1932: "Battalino was shorn of recognition by the NBA as champion when he weighed in over the 126-pound limit. Since he weighed 129¾, however, it ruled the fight could be held and Miller declared champion if he won. But the "no contest" ruling left the title vacant (as it would have been if Battalino had won). Battalino vigorously claimed the title and had to be taken from the ring by his seconds. He was indefinitely suspended by the Boxing Commission and fined $5,000 for this "fiasco." Battalino had been stripped by NYSAC on Jan 8 and Battalino officially renounced his claim on March 1, 1932."

Freddie Miller vs. Gene Espinosa on July 13, 1934: "Not always recorded as a title fight but in fact advertised as such and both men were inside 126lbs."

Possible further claims:

  • The featherweight world champions list on Hickoksports.com states Torpedo Billy Murphy as a champion in 1890.
  • According to the entry on Johnny Kilbane vs. Danny Frush held on September 17, 1921: "A few days later [Danny] Frush issued a statement claiming the Featherweight Title anyway, despite his loss. He claimed he had been fouled several times by Kilbane, including being knocked in the groin by a knee. He had waited until motion pictures of this bout came out, he said, according to some newspapers of the day, so that the public could see for themselves evidence supporting his allegations."

Some boxers won possible world bantamweight title fights (see above) but have not been included in the world featherweight champions category:
