The Stanley Ketchel Curse

According to the April 28, 1914 Tacoma Daily News (Tacoma, WA, USA) newspaper, ill fortune befell a group of boxers who had paid their respects to the murdered Stanley Ketchel at his grave in Grand Rapids, MI, "over a year ago" (circa early 1913). They had staged an exhibition bout, covered his grave with flowers, and took a group photograph.

Then Luther McCarty died "in the ring"; Jimmy Clabby began to lose bouts (which does not appear to be necessarily true); Johnny Coulon took ill; and Johnny Kilbane "shied at opponents," lost gigs, or could not come to terms for bouts.
