The Canadian Boxing Federation was created in 1925. It was initially formed as a clearinghouse for the several provincial commissions, with a view to having each recognize the rulings of the other. It was hoped that with this united front, the relationship of the Canadian commissions to those in the United States would be one of affiliation and recognition and not one of the Canadian body being a mere factor in the United States' wheel. One of its first official decrees was to recognize all previous Canadian champions as CBF champions in order to preserve the lineage. Today, it crowns the Canadian professional champions in all recognized weight classes.
