Obituary

Long time California Official Chuck Hassett passed away yesterday in Anaheim, California at age 72 after a long battle with cancer. Hassett started in boxing in his hometown of Philadelphia where he had a stellar amateur career. Hassett relocated to southern California where he found his niche as one of the best judges in the game. Hassett worked over 100 title fights, sitting at ringside for some of the biggest fights of his time. Oscar De La Hoya, Floyd Mayweather Jr, Roy Jones Jr, and Carlos Zarate were just a small sample of the fighters who fought at events that Hassett judged. Hassett last judged the February 2, 2007 contest between heavyweight contenders Tony Thompson and Timor Ibragimov for the WBC Continental Americas title. Hassett is a member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame in southern California. A true Gentleman of the sport, Chuck Hassett will be missed by the numerous people who were fortunate enough to cross his path at ringside. Rest in peace Chuck.
