Enzo Maccarinelli became the WBO cruiserweight champion after his interim title had been upgraded due to Johnny Nelson's retirement. He also is the former WBU cruiserweight champion. Maccarinelli won that title by knocking out Bruce Scott in 2003 and has made seven successful defences of that world crown, the toughest defence coming against the Yorkshire man Mark Hobson. Maccarinelli won that fight but only just. Early on in his career when he was just 19 he took part in his fourth bout and was knocked out cleanly by Lee Swaby in the third.

Maccarinelli is now training with Enzo Calzaghe, and is the regular sparring partner of Joe Calzaghe. He joined the Team Calzaghe gym after his Swansea trainer was ill and had to retire from training his boxers.

Maccarinelli has boxed notable fighters like Bruce Scott, Mark Hobson, and Marcelo Fabian Dominguez.
