1959-10-01 : Dwight Hawkins 123 lbs lost to Danny Valdez 125½ lbs by MD in round 12 of 12

"Apparently beaten after nine rounds, Danny Valdez came up with some secret stamina and almost blasted out Dwight Hawkins in a furious 12 rounder at the Olympic last night to win the vacant state featherweight title. Valdez had Hawkins on the way out in both the 11th and 12th heats with some solid left hooks and clubbing overhand rights. While he didn't score a knockdown it was enough to bring him from behind. What made it a real test was the terrific pace. They started out in high gear and the walloping didn't slacken until the 5th. By that time both appeared arm-weary and each was nursing a mouse under an eye. Hawkins appeared the stronger from the 7th to the 9th, but everytime he appeared ready to take command, Valdez managed to rally and keep the tally tight." -The L.A. Times
