1969-03-17 : Stanley Hayward 154 lbs lost to Freddie Little 153½ lbs by UD in round 15 of 15

"Freddie Little pounded a retreating Stanley "Kitten" Hayward Monday night for a unanimous 15 round decision and the vacant world junior middleweight title. Little constantly fired left hooks at Hayward's head, opening cuts over his left eye and below his nose. Little bobbed and weaved with feet flat on the floor as the dancing Hayward backed toward the ropes. There were no knockdowns and few damaging blows." -Associated Press

  • "I took him for granted. It's a bad habit of mine. When I get ahead, I should just sock it to him." -"Kitten" Hayward
  • "I had to carry it to him. I hoped to destroy him but he didn't come in - wouldn't make himself available. He's a cagey fighter, but he never hurt me. Now I want Nino Benvenuti." -Freddie Little
