As an amateur, he was the ABA bantamweight and gold medalist at the inaugural British Empire Games, in 1930. Mizler is the younger brother of fighter Moe Mizler. He also won the ABA Bantamweight championship in 1932 and the ABA Lightweight championship in 1933. Mizler represented Great Britain as a Lightweight at the 1932 Los Angeles Olympic games.
