Howard Cosell

Cosell (born Cohen) was a lawyer who became a sports announcer. He became well-known for his interviews with Muhammad Ali and his work on ABC-TV's "Monday Night Football." He announced his retirement from boxing commentary in December 1982 due to the beating Tex Cobb recieved at the hands of Larry Holmes.

He died at age 77 of a heart embolism at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, New York, NY, April 13, 1995.
