In 1959 Jeff Davis made the final of the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at light heavyweight, being reported as engaging in a slugfest, with the verdict being awarded to Cassius Clay and representing Chicago he won an Intercity Golden Gloves' title at light heavyweight vs. Bill Nielsen.

In 1960 he won both the Chicago Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions at light heavyweight by decision vs. Billy Joiner, and the Intercity Golden Gloves' championship at light heavyweight at 0:37 of the 1st round vs. Robert Rutherford.
