"Jerry Quarry, 2nd ranked heavyweight contender, floored Eduardo Corletti for a mandatory eight count and then knocked him out with a crushing left hook at 2:58 of the first round of a scheduled 10 round heavyweight fight Monday night. Quarry took command at the opening bell and punished Corletti with heavy body punches before scoring the first knockdown after one minute. Quarry then drove his opponent into a corner and connected with a right hand to the body and then put him down with the left hook. The referee, Dick Young, stopped the bout after the final knockdown." -Associated Press
