Career Review
- At age 20, Tyson became the youngest World Heavyweight champion with a 2nd round TKO over Trevor Berbick.
- 1984 National Golden Gloves Heavyweight Champion
- Named Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year in 1986 and 1988.
- On September 28, 2006 it was reported that Mike Tyson was planning on a comeback, entitled, World Tour. Tyson would be engaging in four round exhibitions during this tour. Tyson said he hopes to fight 100 4-round exhibitions throughout the world in the next year. Tyson's "World Tour" is shades of the 1930s "Tour" by former World Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey.
Exhibition "World Tour"
On October 21, 2006, Tyson made the first stop of his exhibition tour in Youngstown, Ohio. Tyson fought Corey Sanders over four two and a half minute rounds. Both Tyson and Sanders wore t-shirts and Sanders wore headgear while Tyson did not. Tyson dropped Sanders in the first round, and to some ringside observers, also held Sanders up later in the round after landing a punch so he wouldn't be knocked out. Tyson weighed 241 1/2 pounds for the fight while Sanders weighed 292 1/2.
Legal Troubles
On December 29, 2006, Tyson was arrested around 2 AM for suspicion of DUI and possession of cocaine (a felony). That afternoon, he was arraigned and ordered released without bond. Under the terms of his release, Tyson must submit to drug and alcohol testing and may not drink or take nonprescription drugs while the case is pending. He was also told not to leave the state of Arizona, the place where the crime took place. Tyson's preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 16, 2007.
On January 12, 2007, an Arizona Grand Jury has indicted Tyson on two counts of drug possession and two counts of driving under the influence of drugs.
