Romeo Bellis, a native of the Philippines, was a member of the 1979 and 1980 All-Navy Boxing Team. He had an amateur record of 42-11.

While representing the U.S. Navy in Midwest USA Diamond Belt competition, Bellis, an alternate who got a chance to compete when the Navy champ suffered injuries from eye cuts and a broken hand while in All-Navy Training Camp, upset a highly touted Golden Gloves champion from Chicago.
