  • Lagonia was the middleweight (up to 158 lbs) national amateur champion three consecutive years (1919, 1920, 1921) before turning professional later in that last year.
  • Won 3 amateur boxing titles in one night. On March 29, 1919 at Madison Square Garden concert hall at the finals of the A.A.U. championship tournament, Lagonia took titles at 158 (def. J.F. Bradley - unattached)and 175 (def. J.J. Tomeshek - New West Side A.C.) and the heavyweight class (def. C. Okum - Clark House A.A.). Feat was performed in 1916 by John Gaddi of St. Bartholomew's when he gained titles at similar weights. (NYTimes March 30, 1919).
