After winning the 1910 National A.A.U. heavyweight championship William Warren Barbour (born July 31, 1888 in Monmouth Beach, NJ — died November 22, 1943 in Washington D.C.) chose not to pursue a professional boxing career but went into politics instead; representing New Jersey in the U.S. senate from 1931 to 1937 and from 1938 until his death.
Barbour acted as time-keeper for the 1919 Jess Willard vs. Jack Dempsey heavyweight title fight.
