Re: Can Tarver beat any of the top heavyweight contenders

I want to see Banks focus more on training the fighters he inherited from Steward. I think he's going to turn out to be a great trainer as the years go by. Wlad Klitschko has some (maybe 2) "top contenders" to beat in the next year, and I like that he has Banks in his corner. Tarver is a w...

Max Baer (65-12) W.RTD.7 Tony Galento (77-25-5) from 1940.
This fight was late in both boxers careers.
Good ol' Two Ton. Can't help but like him :)

Re: Could Vitali Klitschko come back at age 46

Most people don't know that Vitaliy got a torn left shoulder ligament in the 3rd round of the Chisora fight, and fought most of that fight with his right hand. Which is why the fight looked like it was more difficult for him than it should have been. That's exactly the problem, injuries. I'm a big ...

Closest I could find was Ring's year end rankings (usually in their February or March magazines): http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/The_Ring_Magazine%27s_Annual_Ratings If you find monthly Ring ratings, please post a link as I would love to see them as well :) Ring Magazine heavyweight ratings: I h...

What did you just watch?

I thought it might be kind of fun to mention a fight from the past that you watched recently...maybe for the first time, or the 100th time. I'm sure most here have a stockpile of classic fights. Even if you don't, there's always YouTube and cable On Demand :) I just watched Bob Foster KO.4 Dick Tige...

Re: Heavyweight scene predictions for 2015!!!

I'm not sure why people still want to throw David Haye's name into today's mix of Heavyweights...am I missing something? or do some think he can actually be a factor in the division? Haye hasn't fought in quite a while (2.5 years), and didn't exactly give his all in what was the most important figh...

Re: Heavyweight scene predictions for 2015!!!

Yeah if Wilder wins big over Stiverne, something along the lines of Foreman-Frazier 1 ( :DDD ) ...that changes things in the division.
If Wilder is legit, we'll have a potential threat to Wlad.

I just don't know and really no one will until right after the Stiverne-Wilder fight.

Re: Heavyweight scene predictions for 2015!!!

I wonder if Carlos Takam (30-2-1, 23 KO) will come back from his KO loss to Povetkin?
He's not a bad boxer, and would be a step up in competition for some of the prospects out there.
Perhaps a rematch with Mike Perez would tell us where both of those fighters are truly at right now.

Re: Could Vitali Klitschko come back at age 46

I think vitali can do it and he will do it. If anyone can do it, of course Vitali certainly can. And he would probably be in the top 2 heavyweights again after just one comeback fight. But I just don't think he should. Him coming back would also interfere with Wlad's chance to retire with all major...

Re: Could Vitali Klitschko come back at age 46

Vitali had a very good career, a couple championships, and left the sport with his brain still intact. Also he's still heavily involved in politics in Ukraine. And as pointed out in an above post he is very injury prone. I hope he doesn't come back. I wish fighters would just retire and not give in ...

Re: nastiest knockout I have seen

Two nasty KO's come to mind. Aaron Brown over Mark Breland. Rafael Pineda over Roger Mayweather I think you meant Aaron Davis but yeah, I watched that one live and it was a nasty KO. My dad was a Breland fan, but I told him Davis would win...he didn't believe me, until Davis drilled Breland HARD.

Re: Corrie Sanders v. Earnie Shavers

Big edge to Sanders in chin, moderate edge to Shavers in power. Why do you give Sanders big edge there? He showed decent chin only against Vitali (whose power is overrated IMHO). Otherwise he got flattened by one punch from Tubbs. Are 8 rounds with Vitali really that much better than 6 with Lyle (a...

Re: Corrie Sanders v. Earnie Shavers

It would be a short fight, 50/50 either way in my opinion, assuming both fighters showed up at their best.
Sanders by KO 2, or Shavers by TKO 6.
Big edge to Sanders in chin, moderate edge to Shavers in power.

I would pay to watch that fantasy fight. :)

Re: Mike Tyson: Ten years either way

I would have loved to see tyson emerge even 5 years earlier and have to face weaver ,shavers, young, cooney,Holmes and witherspoon That's a whole lot of different competition in the first half of the 80s let alone 70s. But sticking to the what if scenario from career begins in 75....... Personally it...

Anyone know the details of Andre the Giant's early professional career as a wrestler when he had moved to Paris France in 1963 at the age of 17? In which gymnasiums there did he learn?who was it who trained him in the early days? Did he ever get into the ring to spar against a boxer? Did he ever re...

Re: Ruiz v Liakhovich - thoughts?

The Liakhovich who was blown away by Wilder, complete with a trembling leg reminiscent of Ingo, shouldn't be allowed anywhere near a prize ring. The guy is being brought in as cannon fodder. Yeah I don't want to see Liakhovich (or any boxer) get seriously hurt like that ever again. Needs to call it...

Good idea, I like that as a tune up :TU:
Chagaev isn't a total pushover, won 6 in a row, has experience against tall opponents (Valuev), but won't likely pose too much of a threat to Fury.

Re: Mike Tyson Vs George Chuvalo

People tend to think that Chuvalo was invincible because he was hard to knock down. Foreman and Frazier are the only ones to stop Chuvalo but neither has the blend of Speed and Power that Tyson has. Sure, Foreman hits harder. However, in the early rounds, he's not very fast. Frazier has greater sta...

Yeah Wlad tossed a few challengers around, and yeah he holds and pushes similar to Lennox Lewis did, and on offense as well (Emanuel Steward trained both of the 2 big Champs to do that: Use size and power). But when fighters come charging in on Wlad, they simply get Knocked Out. It's been that way f...
