Re: Boxer Hank Griffin trainer of Bob Fitzsimmons?
I also Read that Denver Ed Martin (who fought at same time as Griffin) Served at least for a short time as Jeffries sparring partner. I lost the article i meant to save it. Perhaps Jeffries took the cue from Fitzsimmons

Re: Boxer Hank Griffin trainer of Bob Fitzsimmons?
Hank Griffin was also a second in the corner for Bob Fitzsimmons in the second fight with Jim Jeffries. BTW I had read that in the book LANKY BOB by J.K Robinson (2008) have you seen a copy of that ? It's got a sh*tload of newspaper excerpts, particularly from Fitzsimmons series of articles MY 369 ...

Re: Boxer Hank Griffin trainer of Bob Fitzsimmons?
Have not heard of this at all. It is pretty surprising. first an foremost, a white having a black trainer would have been unheard of. Though i have read that Fitzsimmons was not a racist like many people of his time. Also a little strange for an active fighter training another fighter. Makes me thi...

Re: Tommy Ryan's Lack of Title Defenses
This morning I read the accounts of Ryan vs Root. Jack is outstanding Root certainty proved he was superior. In a 6 round bout Draw. Root floored Ryan in round 2. Root should have been facing him when Ryan vs West happened in 1901. In a 20 round bout. The 2nd reading is Ryan vs O brien. Ryan got flo...

Boxer Hank Griffin trainer of Bob Fitzsimmons?
I haven't got a recent book on Bob Fitzsimmon's lately. I was not aware that Boxer Hank Griffin was training bob Fitzsimmons in 1902. I found a newspaper article that states quite clearly that Griffin was his trainer Prior to the bout with Hank Griffin vs Johnson in June 1902. It really makes you wo...

Re: Who Was the Worst Heavyweight World Champion in Your View?
Probably for me would be Tommy Burns. I always view him as a smoking mirrors side show. Marvin Hart often gets rated below him but I think Hart was far more talented, I dont think Burns could have beat Jack Root. Burns completely avoided any kind of rematch & went on to fight the worse level of ...

What's the deal here? Hunter was going to fight someone real I seen it...
Now its this Lovejoy..
Can anyone remember who he was suppose to fight? This has to be a substitution.

Re: How Would Joe Louis Have Done In The 1960s or 1970s era
People adapt to their surroundings. Louis did what he needed to do then. There's no reason why he couldn't go up from 200 to 220 using todays technology. You're saying big guys dominate and have done for a long time, but the guy at the top of the division is smaller than Fury, Joshua, Wilder, Wlad,...

Re: Joe Louis vs Tyson Fury (Peak vs Peak)
I'm with Ambling Alp II and keithmoonhangover there. I believe Tyson Fury's wins over the aging Wlad and the trilogy fight with Wilder were good, but overrated as he beat an aging Wlad like I said before and Fury faced that Wlad who didn't have Manny Steward who passed away 3 years prior to their b...

Now some say that Dempsey would have been to big and strong for Greb, but Dempsey weighted 185 pounds in most of his fights, and Greb fought plentiful fighters of similar or even bigger size (Renault, Weinert, Miske, Tunney) and was never troubled by their superior strenght. Could Greb have beaten ...

Irish Fighter nonpareil jack dempsey profile
Very few fighter's in History had a more successful youth than that of the nonpareil no man was his equal. This has all his ring battles. Including fighting in a ring with a foot of water which they needed to go off the barge to finish. #45 of the series. Counting down to #1 of the pioneer Era. Boxe...

Re: Who would have eventually defeated Marciano?
Rocky was never going to last into his mid 30s because of his style. The crouch his hard on the body as was his all-action style. I like Brockton’s assessment. I think if Marciano is in the right mental state to continue (i.e. motivated in training camp) then I think he may have been okay for a whi...

Does anyone ever count Height in P4P rating?
P4P is a pretty subjective type of rating. I'm wondering If anyone ever considers anything other than weight? Me personally I pay quite a bit of attention to one's height as far as welterweight/middleweight's go...and height does matter. Is height a factor for anyone? As pound per pound the statemen...

Re: Origin point of the Lightheavyweight Title.
Well in the mid 1890's they refer to the weight division of Lightheavy weight 160-175lbs. Heavyweight was 175lbs & up. So I would venture to guess that no way does it take to past 1900 to actually crown someone. 8-29- 1899 Promoted by newspaperman Lou Houseman as for the Vacant World Light-Heavy...

It's obvious wiki is way off on this...it has 1902 Jack Root. I researched this It appears Choynski was the first champion. Box rec first mention is Aug 1889 Choynski vs Australian Jim Ryan for vacant title. They reference Choynski & Tut Ryan in the previous year for the title in 1897 speaking a...
