Takahisa Masuda - Orthodox, not Southpaw

Fought Wonjongkam exclusively from orthodox. Also checked other clips. Never saw any southpaw stance.

Re: Suggestions for BoxRec

On the BOUT page for each fight, please include the number KOs next to the fighter record for each fighter like you did before this update. I just came here to request the same thing. This happened a few years back too when they first moved the bout details from the main page into a separate bout p...

Re: Leo Santa Cruz

Always been a fan. Likeable guy and all-action fighter. But how in the world can the WBA justify him still holding the featherweight title? He hasn't fought at featherweight in over three years!!! In my opinion, he should have already been stripped long ago. The title belongs to Leigh Wood. End of ...

Michael Carbajal vs Tomas Rivera, Oct 12 1996 - Weight for Carbajal

Boxrec lists Carbajal as weighing 108.5. The Jr. Fly limit was 108 and this was an IBF title fight so that weight is highly questionable. Furthermore, I found the following: 1) The ring announcer called his weight out at 107.5 at introductions 2) USA Network "tale of the tape" had Carbajal...

Re: Most outrageous act in the ring?

Two heavyweights were in the ring ready to go. One of them then just got out of the ring and walked away. It was some dispute, contractual or pay-related, something like that. Yeah that wasn't that long ago. In Minneapolis. It was Curtis Harper before facing Efe Ajagba. Bizarre. Broner humping Maid...

Barney Ross & Tony Canzoneri - Greatest Lightweight Rankings

Why does it seem that every greatest lightweight list ranks Canzoneri above Ross? I have studied Ross' career in great depth, including his two fights with Canzoneri. I have not studied Canzoneri's entire career. However, I believe it is safe to say he was still in his prime when he met Ross. Both t...

Re: Barney Ross - Ceferino Garcia Question

Interesting.

Checking it today, the second Garcia fight is now listed as 5-stars just like the other two. I appreciate the correction. It would be nice to know if this were just a technical glitch with the formula or if there was another explanation.

Re: Classic fights I've watched recently

I watched Carlos Monzon KO7 Tony Mundine (1974) recently. Not the whole film, just an 18 minute highlight reel on Youtube. Unfortunately its just a black and white version. Anyway, it was incredible. King Carlos dominates the entire fight with ease, dodging Mundine's offensives, and sidestepping an...

Re: Arguello & Mayweather at 130 lbs

Jr. Lightweight was Arguello's best division and he never lost at that weight despite facing all-time competition. At 130 FMJ was more of a risk-taker and more offensive, he had yet to perfect his defensive mastery that in the second half of his career allowed him to win rounds while only doing the ...

Re: Thoughts now on size of HWs compared to other eras?

Again, I ask the question: When was the last time you seen someone as small as Michael Spinks knock out a name heavyweight? Cooney was inactive, a drug addict, unranked, and nowhere near the level he was against Larry Holmes in 1982. Cooney was fighting for money when he fought Spinks. 199-212 poun...

Barney Ross - Ceferino Garcia Question

The first time they met (9/13/35) Boxrec shows this as 5-star matchup. The second time they met just over two months later (11/29/35) it was a 3-star matchup. In between fights Garcia had 3 wins and a draw. Two years later when they met again it was back to a 5-star fight. Is there a simple explanat...

Re: BoxRec new look

Seems as though you no longer have access to the KO total during the career. For instance if you wanted to know how many KOs Gatti and De La Hoya had when they fought each other you would have to manually add them up. In the past there was a little drop down icon (no new page) that revealed the win ...

Correction Needed: Ref for Paz v Haugen I

Currently Boxrec shows the referee for Pazienza vs Haugen I on 1987-06-07 as "Wally Smith". His name links to a record that shows no other fights. Video research shows ring announcer Frank Carpano announcing him as Wally Schmidt. Newspaper accounts show it to be Waldemar Schmidt from Puert...
