Benitez was a great fighter, master defensive boxer who packed some power. His ko of Maurice Hope was devastating. Don't sell him short, Duran was only 31 when he fought Benitez, and still had some good fights left in him. Benitez was a great talent. Read an article on him few years back, he was in ...

I saw the the Kenty and Ganigan fights. Blood baths. However, in looking at his record it is astounding, the guy won 39 fights against opponents who had never won a fight! He won another 8 against guys who won only one bout. Looks like his Dad, who turned him pro at 16 did a good job protecting him,...

How good was Sean O'Grady?

Only saw O'Grady fight a couple of times, at the end of his career. I would be interested in hearing people's take on him.

This is a silly argument, Sugar Ray was an all time great fighter. Gold medalist as an amatuer. He beat 6 different world champs (Hearns, Duran, Benitez, Hagler all time greats as well, Kahule and Lalonde good fighters in their own right). Also on his way up he was not in there soft, fighting vetera...

Hagler has been whining for years about this loss, a fight that I believe Sugar Ray clearly won. Sugar Ray had a plan, executed it and won the fight. He was a great welterweight who beat a great middleweight, no easy feat. Remember Ray was coming off a stretch where he had one fight in five years, a...

Young kid named Ed Griffin, fought out of Mack's gym in the 90's. He had very good skills for a kid who never made it. One of the few who got out once he realized he was going to be nothing but an opponent. He now trains kids at Mack's gym. Sweet guy, student of the game. Vernon Mason, who split fig...

Will do. You can catch him at local fights Jake Smith puts on at Martin's West. His little brother brings him often to the local cards. Larry, like most old fighters who have nothing to prove, is a very nice guy as willing to engage in stories of his career as he was in the ring.

Would have loved to see it, as Hagler would have busted Hopkins up. Bhop would not have had the punching power to keep Hagler off him. Better question is could Hopkins have handled Sugar Ray Leonard? I don't think so. Ray's killer instinct is often forgotten. Saw the Jones-Hopkins fight live in RFK,...

Middleton was a tall, tough fighter, tuff defense, solid chin. Came from a good family in Turner's Station, a tough neighborhood outside of Bmore which produced Kweisi Mfume. His brother is a top labor leader in Bmore today. He was not as big as most of the heavyweights of today, fought around 205. ...
