Re: Is boxing the most corrupt sport in the world?
I don't think the issues in boxing are solely down to corruption, I also think there is a strong slice of incompetence as well. IE some judges are just terrible and are not on the take. There could also be a problem with the way judges are trained and taught to score fights as well. Judging is not e...

Re: Is boxing the most corrupt sport in the world?
I'm not sure that it is as overall corrupt as soccer/football but I can't think of a sport that is so openly corrupt during the match rather than just behind the scenes. Football corrupt in what way, in terms of selling and buying players? I guess some sort of cheating or corruption is in every spo...

Re: Have we 'Jumped the Shark'?
As bad as it is in Australia, it's even worse here in Canada. We had a brief burst of fighting a few years ago with Denton Daley, but no one is making the news these days. Our media is absorbed with hockey, basketball and baseball. A bit sad, I hope it's just a lull ..... IIRC you can't hold an Aus...

Re: Ray Robinson (peak) vs Roberto Duran (Leonard I)
That video shows that Robinson had a lot of craft on the inside and also used tricks to turn his opponent and gain distance. From what I have seen he was very well rounded and very tough but not flashy in the way that say a Jones Jr was. His style could certainly be used successfully by fighters wit...

Re: Ali in his prime: 4 guys that SURELY would've beaten him
The Human Body couldn't take 14 fights a month against that level of opposition. I don't think it could take 2 at that level. Even the Legends like Greb who fought numerous times in a month didn't fight the cream of the crop every single time out. Hell you couldn't. You couldn't take it. Nobody tha...

Re: Title Defenses: Quality on Average
I would think so. The nerd in me loves how excruciatingly detailed we've gotten about all this  There must be a way of factoring in the amount of defences as well? I mean you can count 'em all as we list 'em. These threads tend to be about the quality of the challengers rather than the sheer n...

Re: Ali in his prime: 4 guys that SURELY would've beaten him
Why do I say this? If Muhammad Ali beat people it was by cutting them over the eye or they were so tired chasing him that he ended up stopping them. But he was the only one who was really getting damaged because everybody was being the aggressor towards him while he was mostly on defense. WHAT?

Re: Do We All Agree That SRR Is The P4P Best Ever?
Using a 20 year old Clay/Ali as a way to show that Ali would be vulnerable in previous era's is a long bow to draw though. He had a great chin, great stamina and high fight IQ. There isn't an era where he wouldn't be the best from Sullivan onwards. His biggest challenge IMO would be Jack Johnson in ...

Re: Title Defenses: Quality on Average
OK, if you think it was a dive, then people can't give it a low number and it figure it into the average. Makes no sense for Ali to be penalized. I know it was a dive. I don't think it was a dive but Jersey Joe fucked up everything that came after it. As you say, Ali was clearly going to win but IM...

Re: Beating a jabber.
the jab can also be a great deceiver, seen plenty of cases of a guy bouncing around, flicking out jabs that dont even make contact, and yet somehow a lot of dudes fall for that as the guy outboxing his opponent On the subject of a jab being a great deceiver, I used to spar a lot of guys who were bi...

Re: Down Goes Frazuh!, Down Goes Frazuh!, Down Goes Frazuh!: 50th Year Anniversary
I always found it a bit mystifying that it was chosen as the Ring Magazine Fight of the Year for 1973 considering it was just a one sided ass kicking. Possibly one of the most memorable ever as far as one sided ass kickings go, but one sided nonetheless. I wonder how many times George would've had ...

Re: Boxers With Interesting Life Stories.
not sure how true that is, but still  Yep you have to question it..$50 for a speeding fine almost 100 years ago would have been a years wages I wouldn’t be surprised if the actual event happened but the amount changed over time to both as an exaggeration, which Jack was very prone to do and w...

I’ve read it was Klitchsckos blood sugar, 2x the normal amount and not far away from diabetic coma. Not sure if it’s true or not but it’s certainly a reason.

I’m gonna take it back a little further. Some of these might not be the best fights but guys I want to see live or fights that I would love to experience the atmosphere of. 1880s - Sullivan vs Paddy Ryan or Killrain. 1890s - Young Griffo vs Torpedo Billy Murphy or Joe Gans 1900s - Langford vs Jeane...

Re: George Foreman Revisited: Questions That Keep Me Up @ Night. )
LOL! Ali didn't 'collapse' in the ring. He said that chaos broke out in the ring and the only safe thing to do was sit down on the ring canvas, if memory serves. Sorry to say, but you're a lunatic. It's funny that his opinion on the fight seems to come from reading about it in books whereas my and ...

who beats Liston? Muhammad Ali, Leotis Martin and... Marty Marshall.... Liston was a big, strong man who was tough, could hit hard and had a threatening demeanour... BUT - he was not this invincible beast that Ali fans make him out to be.... Bar Ali, Liston was hardly in his prime for his other los...

Re: Sonny Liston (1963) vs. current HWs ?
The 1963 version of Sonny Liston was allegedly 33½ years of age and had competed in 36 bouts. He had lost one of them and had gone the distance eleven times. He wasn't as heavy-handed as many believe him to be. Tell the whole story. Liston started boxing in prison and turned pro as soon as he got o...

Re: Sonny Liston (1963) vs. current HWs ?
liston's reach has also been listed at 80.5 for his fights, a very specific number and not sure why they'd make that up if he was really 84, considering the bias is almost always to list guys as bigger than they are. i think 84 is mythical Don’t forget that reach is measured by fingertip to fingert...

Re: Sonny Liston (1963) vs. current HWs ?
Yes he would, Listson had an 84" reach, more than most today. He hit harder than Wilder and unlkie Wilder had Skills and Stamina to go a fast pace for 12 rounds. Chin was better than any of the " champs " today. IMO Liston would be 230LBS today. No doubt Liston was good but far from ...
