Re: Dana White Hints (Again) at Foray Into Boxing; Hopes To Launch Promotion in '12-24 Months'
With the Ali Act and his unwillingness to pay much to his athletes , he's not going to make the impact he would like. I'd like to see him try and get boxers to sign away 80% of their purse and be tied down to a multi-fight contract which can't see them box elsewhere even as an opponent just to be t...

Re: Who were you rooting for? Mayweather or Pacquiao
Not much. Pacquiao and Mayweather were ancient when they fought. Mayweather was far past his best and Pacquiao was even further. Means very little when ranking them historically. Would have been great 5 or 6 years earlier. Pac won a world title 4 years later against a legitimate champion. He was no...

The great Jack Dempsey vs the good but not great Jess Willard. Brutal.

He beat Frazier, Norton and Lyle. That is a strong case for being in the top 5. A key factor when looking at "dominance" is who else is in the picture. It doesn't take a great fighter to dominate a weak era. Obviously, Foreman was not in a weak era. You can't just look at the number of ti...

That’s very surprising to me, I thought the 50s and 60s were always looked at as a weaker era, especially compared to the 70s.

Not that I would consider it a padded record but it is crazy to see Len Wickwar fighting someone with over a 100 pro wins then 6 days later fighting someone on their pro debut.

Re: Why is Tyson Fury so reluctant to agree to terms with Usyk?
How much revenue do you think Fury brings-in when he fights an opponent like Chisora? Probably like $40-60 million. How much revenue do you think Usyk brings-in when he fights Chisora? Probably like $10 million. There is no way that Usyk is entitled to 50%. So, with that established, why is Oleksan...

Snooker has now become very suspect with more than a few Chinese players being suspended and investigated for match fixing Perhaps the biggest scandal was John Higgins and his manager at the time being caught on camera confessing "Give us a load of money and we'll take a dive guv" The obs...

But we have also had 70 or so years of HWs to overtake his spot historically, which plenty have.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑05 Mar 2023, 13:37 Marciano was always held in high esteem for a long time, well into the 2000s. Re: Classic fights I've watched recently
I just watched an edited version of both Dempsey v Tunney fights. I'm not sure how I feel about it. If I'm being honest I expected Tunney to be, for lack of a better word, technically better. Though I also understand this was still very early in the evolution of gloved boxing.

Foreman and Duran and Tunney. Duran unfortunately fought for too long and so in the later part of his career he ends up racking the losses to guys who couldn’t tie his shoes in his prime. Kirkland Laing and Robbie Sims beat him by split decision very famously. That’s what I found really interesting...

Re: MMA
I thought Jones’ striking had improved as well. He used to be a lot more ‘goofy’ looking with his striking and made some mistakes but his huge reach made it difficult for anyone to take advantage of. Although it was only a small sample he looked a lot tighter. Stupidly easy win though. I don’t like ...

Re: Who ranks higher historically? Chris Byrd or Ingemar Johansson
Louis' only losses were against Hall of Famers. Joe Louis didn't get smashed by anyone like Sanders, Puritty and Brewster. The reason? He was lots better than Klitschko. I’m not convinced Schmeling was any better than anyone who beat either Klitschko. I also wonder how much WW2 had to do with shrin...

Re: How Do You Rank These Smaller Heavyweight Champions?
Charles had more title defenses, beat more top 10 opponents and seems to have been the best heavyweight in the world for roughly 3 years. Frazier seems to benefit a lot from sharing an era with Ali. Holyfield is an interesting case. He had good longevity but never really established himself as the ...

1. Larry Holmes 2. Muhammad Ali In my opinion everything that Muhammad Ali could do Larry Holmes did it better. He had a far better jab than Muhammad Ali did. He actually could box and punch. Larry also didn't do a lot of unnecessary movements like Muhammad Ali did, bouncing around the ring he coul...

Re: Who Are Your #1 and #2 Heavyweights Of All Time?
If you're gonna go that route. I feel I must point out that Ali wouldn't have lost to McCall or Rahman if he'd fought them both 10 times. The rematches showed the true levels of Lewis, McCall and Rahman. If to go this way, you can find holes in anybody's career. I also doubt Lewis performing so sh1...

fitz was a great fighter, but his success at hw wouldnt go far beyond his era, just a wildly different time keep in mind he won the hw title from a guy who weighed 184 fight day, less than joe smith and sullivan barrera weighed for their light heavy fight. imagine tim tsyzu vs joe smith for a heavy...

Danny Greens victory over Jones Jr. Was in a pub with heaps of bogans. Obviously Green was never in Jones' class at their best. I think Jones should still have enough left to have a comfortable victory over Green. Loved Jones Jr growing up, and then in one round it was all over and I knew I would ha...

I'm looking for boxers who all their losses came against good/great boxers. Ali: Frazier, Norton, Spinks, Holmes, Berbick Leonard: Duran, Norris, Camacho. Leon was a mediocre one. I don't think that is completely accurate. Outside of Coetzee Spinks only lost to world champions until after his 33rd ...

Because I am bored at work I am using boxrec to help me confirm my suspicions. Hatton only lost to Mayweather and Pacquiao. Corbett's losses were against Jeffries, Fitzsimmons and Sharkey. Pattersons 8 losses are to Maxim, Johanssen, Liston, Ali, Quarry, Ellis. All pretty bloody good fighters. I tho...

Loved to see is too strong of a phrase but it would have been good if he was more active during 64-65. Not that it would have in anyway of helped his legacy all that much. He could have given Doug Jones a rematch during early 64 before Jones lost to Daniels. In hindsight, a one sided as kicking, whi...

Just happened to run across this and thought this was interesting. On February 5, 1913, the New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) actually banned fights between fighters of different races. This is in a northern state almost 50 years after the Civil War. Wow. 1913 you say.... I'm sure it had a...
