I always had an affection for Qawi as a fighter.
I can tell you from first hand experience that it is not easy taking a fight on short notice, while out of
shape against an in shape bigger foe. It sucks and is dangerous.

Re: Sonny Liston V Jerry Quarry 1970
I think Quarry bests a 1970 version of Liston. He was tough and capable still around this time but a decade past his best.
Plus you can not write off the outside of the ring lifestyle adding to Liston's wear.
Id pay to watch it still.

Re: boxers who you expected more from
For me personally - Michael Grant - I was a teenager who bought the publicity and hype. I thought this HBO baby would have done better and more with his career. Eddie Chambers - I still have high hopes for Fast Eddie but I was really excited to see a small heavyweight with good defence do well, anot...

Re: Mike Tyson v. Earnie Shavers
I think the first round is tentative early but has some fire works early. The second round has Tyson taking control with Shavers landing but not flush enough. Third round I would imagine Tyson winning with a KO while Shavers digs his heels in and tries to land that magic shot. I just think a prime T...

Re: Why is Holmes vs. Marvis Frazier counted as a title fight?
If we want to dig into legitimate 'title defences' should we not go back further than the ABC gangs and who they thought should or should no be a credible contender. Lew Joslin... was he an exhibition ? or if he had of beaten Champion Fitzsimmons would he have won the title? John Finegan ... Joe Ken...

Re: Tommy Morrisson v. Tony Tubbs
Prime for prime I would think that Tubbs wins this, he is able to take the fight deep and as the rounds go on Morrison slows up. Morrison going 15 rounds ? That would be interesting to see. Having said that... Tommy has that perfect left hook and could time and find it nicely. Most likely Tubbs by D...

Re: What heavyweight champ had the toughest title opposition?
Larry Holmes wins the title against Ken Norton in 1978. Alfredo Evangelista. KO Round 7. Oct. 1978. After going 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali for the world heavyweight title in 1977, Alfredo would go on to KO Jean Piere Coopman in the first round, as well as to string together ten straight wins with 8...

Re: The Strength & Athleticism of Wilt Chamberlain
There is more in common between Donald Bradman and Jackie Robinson or Pele and Herschel Walker than a top tier MMAer and Boxer or an Olympic wrestler than boxer. Combat sports are not so easily clumped together as they so often are by 'experts' they are distinctly important set of skills relevant to...

I see above a lot of bench stats mentioned or this and that so what... I have never ever known any of that to ever relate to prize fighting. Re: Rocky Marciano couldn't carry my jockstrap.........
So any time a sports person or any celeb says something in the negative about another person of similiar stature..living or dead....that should be considered tasteless? Personally I would never have said it myself, however I felt. But I am not that man and he is not you. I just watch fighters fight....

Who cares what he said ? who cares what any one says ...serious. People have said nastier things about both men, people who have not even one ounc...

I have seen first hand an evolution in so many areas.

Louis
he met a lot of guys who were similiar in many ways to Marciano BUT
not as determined or tough.
Depending on the ref but maybe a cut stoppage or decision for Louis
But boy what a fight :)

Re: The Strength & Athleticism of Wilt Chamberlain
Wilt showed where his athleticism and strengths lay... on the ball court. I don't know what a fighter is suppose to look like or act like ? Wilts attributes would be a factor if Wilt was a boxer. But say a Michael Grant who worked VERY hard with such athletic gifts managed to get very far in the spo...

I think that Bowe busts Lyle up at range and on the inside.

it being all Big Daddy.

Fortunately fights are not democratic and a consensus means little...in most things. BUT... I just can not envision Ali having much trouble with Jeffries. Re: Prime Larry Holmes vs. a prime Joe Frazier. ------
I think Holmes gets the decision.
It is close and hard and when Larry is flat footed and goes
deep into those trenches with Frazier he loses rounds.
Over all it is just a Larry win, but Boy..would this not be
cool to watch.

Re: Il Duce's ~ "Certified '5' Greatest Heavyweight Champions"
That is the beauty of combat sports is that it is a case of best guessing. But those close to the camps usually have a good idea. When you are around a fighter in prep you can some times develop a feeling as to how he would do in the bout and I suspect in some of those mentioned, people close to the...
