Re: Ams vs. Pros? from a fan perspective
I'm glad some others agree that it's the same sport! The only differences in some rules you all know. And concerning tradition amateur boxers in the US didn't wear jerseys for decades up to the seventies!

Re: Ams vs. Pros? from a fan perspective
I wouldn't advise to do away with the headgears but get off the vests that the guys get the traditional barechested boxing attire the majority of spectators prefer. Hmmm - so are you saying that spectators prefer to watch bare chests rather than the actual boxing? Interesting. It's not such ...

Re: Ams vs. Pros? from a fan perspective
I prefer amateur boxing. In pro boxing the heavier weight classes get too much importance, in amateur boxing the weight classes are equally matched. The fights are shorter, there is more change in program. It's more sport and less show. It's pity that most spectators prefer pro boxing and amateur bo...

Re: AIBA EC Meeting - New Competition Rules
[quote="boxmel"], Makes no sense to me. Women went up, men went down and now they've split the 17-18 year olds away. Sigh. At least it looks like the headgear and tank tops didn't get cut. I'm glad they didn't take the headgear away but I hope they allow fights w/o singlet for juniors and ...

Greatest amateur boxer in last 70 years
Of course you cannot compare boxers of different times. And what do you mean? The boxer most successful as amateur (most olympic medals, that means those who turned pros rather late like Laszlo Papp or never like Teofilo Stevenson) or a splendid amateur who became a successful pro as well, then you ...

Headgears in my opinion clearly differentiate pros and amateurs by apparel. You don't need shirts. You have headgears, gloves and trunks for different colours to differentiate the corners. Taking off the jerseys would be only a return to the state before 1988 in the US. Look at the old clips of youn...

Headgear and singlets in amateur boxing
I would strongly suggest to keep the headgears as they protect from cuts and diminish the crash on the floor in a knock down. These are significant advantages. In the question of singlets/shirts I definetely support shirtlessness of male fighters which is the traditional dress code in boxing emphasi...
