Re: Mistakes on Razor Ruddock's record?
The link you provided is for Razor Ruddock's KO 2 Larry Alexander. But you forgot the link to the old newspaper report that mentions Ruddock having lost a 4-round decision to Hall. According to August 1982 Ring Magazine, p57; Razor won a 4 rd majority decision over Richard Hall. The win is also lis...

Mistakes on Razor Ruddock's record?
I just happened to look on Razor Ruddock's record, and I see it's listed that he was KO'd in 2 by Larry Alexander. That should be reported as the other way around; it was Ruddock who KO'd Alexander in 2. Also, does anyone know if Ruddock lost a fight early in his career to Arthur Hall? It's listed a...

Re: Steve Collins - What is the deal with this guy?
Collins was one of those fighters who spent the bulk of his career in the shadows of others and then emerged late in his career with some big wins. He lost title shots vs. Mike McCallum and Reggie Johnson, but gave a strong, gutty account of himself each time. When he finally got the big fights with...

Re: Danny Lopez
How good was he and where does he rank amongst the great featherweights? Big puncher, very tough and determined; perhaps somewhat like a FW version of Felix Trinidad. Sometimes tended to get dropped early, but usually came back to win. His defense had a lot of holes, and that was always a liability...

James Scott, sheesh, had he not been put in with Braxton so quickly , who knows what might have been. "Quickly" in what way? He'd already been a leading contender for some time (and beaten several other contenders), and actually was supposed to fight John Conteh even before he went to jai...

BTW, what was the story behind Scott's conviction? That article I posted above says he went to jail for murder, but this here is from an old Sports Illustrated article from around the time he fought Eddie Gregory: "A few nights earlier, Scott's car had been seen in the vicinity of a murder and ...

He was released either in late 2004 or early 2005. From http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/article516615.ece "From the other side of the Atlantic last week came a cutting that stirred memories of one of the strangest days of my working life. It was a brief news item that told how James Scot...

Re: What if Joe Louis vs Billy Conn 1942
Louis would've done basically what he did in the rematch - corrected his technical mistakes, worked his jab (rather than waiting for big shot openings), and accepted the knockout if/when it happened to come.

Re: Terry McGovern, On Par With Armstrong?
Following his loss to Joe Louis, Max Baer went on a whirlwind boxing tour of the United States. In a four month span he beat 20 (sorry not 24) men. Dunno why BR has the Willie Davies bout listed, considering it was an exhibition, but oh well. He kayoed 15 of the 20 men. He still fell well short of ...

Re: Mayweather Vs Henry armstong
I'd take Armstrong by close, competitive decision. Mayweather's infighting skill could neutralize Armstrong at times, but Hank's skill at cutting off the ring and relentless pressure would ultimately be the difference in his favor.

Jorge Paez. Although he's mostly remembered for his featherweight title run, I think he was actually stronger and more comfortable at 135.

Barney Ross (NOT Armstrong) - First simultaneous 3x champ
A lot of you may already know this, but I wanted to raise a discussion on this anyway. Henry Armstrong is often credited today as being the first (and only) fighter to hold 3 world title simultaneously. However, that appears to be incorrect. Barney Ross in fact held the LW, jr. WW, and WW titles at ...

Re: Terry McGovern, On Par With Armstrong?
McGovern isn't in the class of someone like Armstrong, whether he "should've" won the lightweight title or not. He's more comparable to someone like Tyson or Liston, who blazed through the ranks for a couple years like a firestorm, but then was tested and folded against an opponent who gav...

Funny, I was just thinking of starting a thread on this fight, without even knowing it was its "anniversary." This is one of my favorite fights, an all-time classic between two legends. To fully appreciate it, you need to look at the circumstances coming into it. Olivares was coming off bi...

Re: Vote For The Fight Of The Decade!
I would lean toward Barrera-Morales I. Ward-Gatti I and Corrales-Castillo I are great candidates as well, but I feel B-M I just seemed to define the whole decade somehow, as if it was a standard by which subsequent great fights (especially in the lower weight classes) were measured.

Charley Burley. Zale, LaMotta, Cerdan, Robinson all avoided him. Only Archie Moore, Ezzard Charles, Mims, Marshall took their shots at him, and nine times out of ten he was victorious. Are you talking about Burley? Burley was collectively 1-3 against Moore, Charles, and Marshall, and from my recoll...

Surprised no one has mentioned Nick Barone, a decent light-heavyweight contender who was somehow brought up to HW for a title shot against Ezzard Charles. RE: Rademacher - He was the "worst" in terms of credentials, but in actual quality, he wasn't as bad as some. He went on to be a decent...

Thoughts on Jorge Paez?
Paez is a fighter I very rarely see mentioned on boxing boards, let along discussed in depth. Personally, I was pretty impressed with Paez when he first came up. He was a very skilled (if awkward) technician, with quick hands and good counterpunching ability, very strong for the weight, and a pretty...
