Re: Prime Michael Spinks V Prime Floyd Patterson
Interesting match-up.
Two very cerebral fighters.
I'd give the edge to Spinks, he had an outstanding heart, and he could focus on an opponent better than almost anyone.

Re: Spinks-Holmes
8 Holmes declined very slowly, in my opinion, and was a very capable fighter for years after this fight. I believe Holmes was in good shape, and I have never thought of him as a lazy trainer. He has always been a consumate professional, and a credit to boxing. Spinks fought a great fight, and Holmes...

Re: Mike Tyson In His Prime
I believe that fear and intimidation play a big part in the outcome of many fights. If that was not so, fighters wouldn't bother trying to psyche each other out. This is not just limited to the Marciano's, Liston's, Foreman's, and Tyson's. But note how easily you can form a long list of intimidating...

Re: Who Was The Best Fighter Rocky Marciano Beat?
The point some of the posts have already made is that while the major oponents Rocky faced were not in their prime, many of them were still very special. Other sports have some of these same contiversies. For example, while some question the quality of their oponents and the era itself, football fan...

Re: Who Was The Best Fighter Rocky Marciano Beat?
This has been an interesting subject. Just a couple of quick points to add. !.) Rocky got a late start, so we may have never seen a true prime performance from him. 2.) Comparison of athletes from different eras is tricky, contriversial, and fun. 3.) Larry Holms and Mike Tyson both thought Rocky's r...

Re: Rocky Marciano Circa 1953 V Lennox Lewis Circa 1995
Well, since everyone has been picking Lewis, we can't have much of a discussion without a dissenting opinion, I"ll take Rocky. The size discrepancy is large, and I do think Lewis is an all-time great, but didn't you learn anything from David and Goliath. Ok, seriously, I don't think it is autom...

Re: Prime Sonny Liston
Hi all, just getting started here. First, Collins2000, what a great post; I loved your pictures, and your sense of humor. As for Liston... I'm not old enough to have seen his live fights on TV. Opinions sure seem to vary on his actual ability. Can anyone point me in the right direction to "see&...
