Re: Which british fighters were promoted brilliantly

Joe Calzaghe and Naseem Hamed - both long reigning world champions, beating some decent names but avoiding the all time greats that were around at the same time. Both in the hall of fame, but might have been very different had they fought the very best in or around their division early in their rei...

I got Journeymen for Christmas, enjoying it so far. Thanks to the OP for starting this thread otherwise I wouldn't have known about it to put it on my pressie list :TU:

Re: Naz elected into Hall of Fame

Well one things for sure Naz is still splitting opinions even now. Just like he did back in his prime. It's a tough call for me is this one. I lived in Sheffield in the 90s and can remember the buzz that Naz created in the city at the time. It was electric. Not just Naz but there was a real exciteme...

Re: How to spoil a great card

It was a decent night of boxing, I enjoyed it for the most part. I think Mitchell Smith was on the prime time slot because they really wanted to push him. The commentary team were paractically salivating over him during his ring walk, and he looked a confident guy. I think they were expecting someth...

Re: Very disappointed in cleverly

Is anyone genuinely surprised by the talk of the third fight? The conspiracy theorist side of me thinks this entire shambles was just the stepping stone to set up the "epic" trilogy. Grudge match, 1-1, Bellew will rant about wanting the decider, Cleverley will drone on about always fightin...

Speaking of allegedly, have you seen how they are showing Bellew v Cleverley 1 Uncut tonight? Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere

Re: anyone else crumbling to the PPV

It's been a struggle today deciding, but final decision is I'll be listening on Five Live. It was a tough decision and I can't deny I really want to see some of the fights tonight. But if there's any (tiny) hope that this kind of thing doesn't become the regular service then I just can't cave in and...

Re: Cleverly-Bellew live on BBC Radio 5 Live

I remember as a 9 year old kid getting up in the early hours with the whole family to listen to Tyson vs Bruno 1 on the Radio. Was pretty exciting stuff.

Think this might be the solution to the PPV dilemma I've been having all morning

Re: Boxing Regrets

Khan V Thaxton back in the day. I think Khan would have won, but Thaxton would have made it hell and given how entertaining both fighters are/were it would have been a great one for the fans. Naseem v Mayweather. When Mayweather was at Super Feather, Naz was one weight below. Would have been one hel...

Re: Anyone give Khan a realistic chance against Floyd?

Khan's speed will give him a chance and I think he'll take some rounds. Floyd will probably figure out a way to win in the end and will probably edge a points victory, but Amir certainly has a chance.

Re: Whatever happened to...Roman Greenberg

Not even the relentless plugging might of Secondsout could propel him to the top Yeah they really loved him on Secondsout. They'd put articles about what Greenberg had for breakfast as their headline article. I might have imagined it but I'm almost certain at one time the url for Secondsout routed ...

Re: Broner-Maidana SPOILER

A definite feelgood quality to this victory, Maidana deserved it and was humble in the post fight interview. I was genuinely worried that there'd be a controversy with the scoring. I'll give Broner some credit though, he showed some guts and took some pretty harsh shots, for a fighter who's never re...

Re: Should Prince Naseem be in the Hall of Fame?

I agree, Kelley wasn't shot. They were pretty evenly matched and that showed with the amazing battle they had. Both dangerous but chinny fighters. Naz's power won out though. Johnson, Vasquez and Bungu were definitely shot by the time Naz walked through them and to be honest I think everyone believ...

Re: Boxing is a business!!

So another question for you all : If you have a fighter who is talented who says "I'm here for the money, I am going to make as much as soon as possible and then get the f*ck out" do you blame him? I wouldn't blame him at all, I'd admire the honesty to be honest. As a fighter he'd be choo...

This thread has become a bit like Naz's career, a decent argument put forward against his induction and then everything goes quiet and fades out.

Re: Who Would You Replace Jim Watt With?

I thought alex arthur did a really good job last night. Would be happy to see him get the gig more often, definately better than watt. Ritchie woodhall always calls the technical stuff well but maybe a bit dull for a main commentators slot, maybe better leaving him in the studio on a panel, or ring...

Re: Why would Mayweather fight Khan in May?

Love or hate Khan, he always generates attention. He is one of a handful of UK fighters that makes the mainstream media and is a "household" name over here. He is a celebrity as much as he is a boxer, even if some of the reasons he makes headlines are not ones that show him in a good light...

Re: Is Froch vs Groves worthy of PPV

Only in certain sports though, some top events are kept well alone as they powers that be don't want to kill the goose; though this is a major domestic bout it isn't a major event in world terms and I disagree that Froch automatically deserves PPV - it entirely depends on who he is boxing . Exactly...

Re: Is Froch vs Groves worthy of PPV

Definite no for me. I already shell out 60 odd quid a month for the Sky package and a tenner for allegedly. I (naively) thought that Sky were supposed to be doing away with PPV once allegedly launched but that didn't last long. I can just about cope with Sky charging PPV for a world class main event...
