Re: boxing-auction

There are just too many books to check them all today but there are plenty of biographies/ autobiographies, mostly the usual, but one or two more obscure ones - Lewis, Louis, Ali of course, Liston, Foreman, Jimmy Bivins, Ruby Goldstein, Teddy Baldock, Haye, Sullivan, Tyson, Cooper, Ray Robinson, Bru...

Thanks. I've forgotten but I'll have a look and see what's there. I let a lot go a while back. I don't want anything for them.

Re: boxing-auction

Apologies, again, if this is testing people's patience but as the unsold stuff from the first auction in November is back up on sale online to finish February 18, and as a few people showed interest last time, I thought I should let people know. It's on at the February Library Sale on www.the-salero...

Re: boxing-auction

No I don't mind you asking. There was so much more I wanted to do in life that I hadn't had time for, so best to draw a line and go rather than hang around and become even more of a relic than I already was. Put another way, better to walk away too soon rather than too late. Sorry I don't know what ...

Re: RIP Alan Minter

Just been told of this thread. I agree wholeheartedly - obviously. It was a mind-numbingly bad prediction. I remember sitting with Harry Mullan (in the George on Great Portland Street, does that excuse it? No probably not.) We were talking over the fight, mulling the what ifs, then Harry had the ide...

Old VHS tapes/magazines

Not sure if this is a waste of everyone's time but I'm moving house and have to get rid of piles of old boxing magazines and VHS tapes, some the usual stuff, some not so usual. They'll go in a skip or to the tip unless anyone is interested in them. You'd need to collect though. If anyone wants to co...

Billy Gray 60s heavyweight

Sad to hear of the passing of 1960s heavyweight Billy Gray on Jan 20th in a Wolverhampton hospital. From a boxing family in Norton Canes near Cannock, though usually billed out of Walsall, Billy was a junior ABA champion with Wolverhampton ABC. He was a pro from 1964-69, won a Jack Solomons heavywei...

Re: The Boxing News Dilema

It may be slightly irrelevant to this debate but when I joined Boxing News in 1978, with Harry Mullan editing, there were people who complained it wasn't like it used to be, was out of touch with its readers and predicted that it couldn't go on much longer. Times move, boxing continues to cling on b...

Re: Other than Jamie Moore.......

Stretching the 30 years just a little bit, Clinton McKenzie at his peak wouldn't have been out of place in a world title fight. I remember him losing over 15 rounds in one of the best fights I've ever seen against Colin Power - I thought McKenzie won = and less than 3 weeks later he fought Bruce Cur...

Re: Kell Brook Ringwalk time?

For anyone who is going to California, be aware the show starts very early. Luke Campbell is scheduled to box around 2.15 p.m. local time, followed by Callum Smith around 2.45-2.50. Deontay Wilder is set for around 4.15. Figueroa 6.05, followed by Bika, then Porter-Brook earliest ringwalk 7.52, so e...

Re: interesting tweet i received last night

Correction to this, my fault entirely, scribbling things down in a rush at ringside. Richie Davies had it 5-2 Burns after 7, Carlos Ortiz 6-1, Andre Van Grootenbruel 4-3.
Apologies.

Re: Billy Waith

I remember Billy very well, classy boxer who should have won far more than he did. There is a mistake on his boxrec record because I was there when he boxed Andoni Amana in Spain in 1978. It's got the fight down as in Bilbao on the record here but it was in Miranda de Ebro on the undercard of a Euro...

Re: Gavin Rees V Adrien Broner Weigh-in

Timings... Whittaker v Hopkins 2.35-ish on the world feed. Escobedo-Cherry is before that but will be filmed. Then HBO go on air at 3.30, beginning with Sjekloca-Bika, so the time of the Broner-Rees fight depends on how long that lasts. That's why nobody can be precise about it. Hope that helps.

Henry Armstrong's date of birth is right (1909 not 1912 - source the US Census for 1910) but he wasn't born in St Louis - he was born in Lowndes County, Mississippi - nearest town was Columbus.
