Re: Does this mean

No more barry Mac on sky? Hes not on the Big fight special tonight. Terrible loss for sky. Fraid so - perhaps Steve Collins will be a perminant analysis. He said so in his article in the paper today - forget which one (read them all in work today). Can anyone find the extract from the article...

rocky is the only undefeated hevayweight champion. not only that but he defeated better competetion than holmes. walcott and charles were better than any fighter holmes ever beat. At there peaks, you may have an arguement. Old Walcott and Charles where no better than Norton, Cooney, Snipes or Shave...

There are plenty of reasons for having ali at #3, #4 or even #5.

Louis cannot be demoted to such levels

Pretty hard to name two heavyweights who dominanted as long and as ruthlessly as Louis.

Ali slapped his way to this "reign" of bad decisions and media hype.

Liston, Marciano, tyson where as ruthless but not as long, and quite simply not as good.

What 2 heavyweights could push him to #3?

This would be a classic boxing Display from larry Holmes. Holmes would dance around, throw jabs, uppercuts for the first 4 rounds, Tyson would land occassionally, but holmes would tie up and recover, and get back dancing. From rounds 4-8, EVEN IN HIS PRIME, tysons output lowered, and he would be tak...

Larry Holmes is easily in the top 3 of all time. The fact he had "trouble" with so-called lesser fighters was because he decided to mix it up and risk it when he could have easily danced around them and won every round. He beat Norton By 3 or 4 clear rounds, it was a good fight, but clear ...

Re: Holyfield vs. The All-Time Greats

Boxing 98 put Evander in with Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Sonny Liston, Ali, Frazier and Holmes. They have him going 6-4 with ,I think, 3KOs. His tkos come against Tunney, Liston, and the 70s version of Foreman. He loses to Louis by ko, Ali on points, Holmes ...

The one factor that leans me to an Ali points win is thinking about how much trouble a near novice Tim Witherspoon gave a peak Holmes. That was a very close fight and Ali was a better and faster fighter than Witherspoon. Witherspoon fought out of a exceptionally tight cross-armed defence, with a po...

I also heard that Marciano overcome aids to beat Walcott inbetween rounds 6 and 7.

Joe Louis said numerous times that to overcome aids, made Marciano the greatest of all time.

Anyone confirm this?

Re: Ali, Berbick, Tyson & McBride Question.

I have yet to see either fight and have little desire to for the obviouse reasons so I was wondering about a couple of points for those who have seen or were around at the time of both fights. (1) Who looked the more shot out of Ali and Tyson? (2) Which fight gained the most pre-fight press? (3) Wa...

I think the fact that Mugabi was so competitive in that fight was a sign of Hagler's skills slowly wilting away before the leonard encounter.

Great fight, but the Hagler of yesteryear would have done a more efficent job on him.

I never said earne shavers wasnt an ELITE HITTER. I just said he is not top 5, he is top 10. I dont think he knocked out enough great fighters or put enough great fighters out for the count and thats why i dont put him in the top 5. Fair enough, but surely you see that the Ring ratings for punchers...

To all of those who i have heard talk about this matchup over the years on forums, i must say that after watching Foremans comeback fight vs. Cooney, that it would have been one of the most one-sided beatdowns in heavyweight boxing, and i mean in the favour of deposed champion Iron mike.
