Re: Suggestions for BoxRec

There was previously a printable version of boxer's record, but I can't seem to find a link to it anywhere. Haven't used the site for a while, so maybe I'm missing something and the printable version was removed for some reason? Simply choosing "print" in browser displays everything, inclu...

Capt. Cooke in Boston Police News (May 21, 1887): Great Jupiter! Who ever heard the like of that challenge of Kilrain's so-called "backer," directed to John L. Sullivan? The challenge is for Sullivan to fight Kilrain "in six months or less," under London prize ring rules, "w...

Re: Corbett vs Kid Mccoy was it a fake? and why?

Did Mccoy ever address this later in life? McCoy claimed he had learned about his wife (Julia) being unfaithful to him (with his close friend Frank) a couple of weeks before the Corbett fight was to take place, and that he couldn't train properly and he didn't care about the fight anymore, but that...

Anybody tried to compile his amateur record? There obviously were lots of them, but I'm not sure I want to go through LA and other newspapers in 1931 and 1932. Maybe somebody has researched it already?

Re: The Top 100 Greatest Boxers Pound per Pound of All-Time

Britton's series with Lewis was split even, if you consider both official and newspaper decisions. Unfortunately, I don't have my notes of the series at hand, and can't link to a thread with short summaries and retyped reports, that I posted at another forum a while ago, and which ended at their 12t...

I wasn't debating his achievements, I talked about his obvious technical flaws that could/would be exploited by lots of heavyweight punchers, had they fought Norton.

Foreman, Quarry (short-handed and much smaller), Garcia (1975 bout), Stander (short, slow and fat), Shavers, Cooney. When Frazier was staying at mid-range and throwing hooks, he didn't stop bobbing and weaving. Norton is regularly attempting the same thing, but he stops bobbing and weaving when he s...

How much footage have you watched of these fighters? None. Norton may have belonged on the list due to the length or lack thereof of his reign, but he was a notch above most all of those guys as a fighter, and was robbed against Ali in their 3rd bout. He also looked one of the worst if not the wors...

Re: International Boxing Hall of Fame changes starting in 2020

Head-to-head I can imagine lots and lots of heavyweights who might have poor skills and no achievements whatsoever, but who had a punch and who could be aggressive. Something Norton couldn't deal with, at least he never proved he could. So based on achivements, Norton could be Top 50, but head to he...

It wasn't explained in any sources I've seen on him. He was called (Young) Tipton Slasher from the earliest fight report that could be found of him. Re: International Boxing Hall of Fame changes starting in 2020

Norton was a piece of s**t who had no clue how to fight when being pressured. There are hundreds, if not thousands of mediocre heavyweights in history who would have knocked him out in a few rounds. He didn't do anything clever against Ali, whenever Ali started moving, Norton had no idea what to do....
