Re: K. Pulev vs. H. Fury

Good performance by Pulev. I was impressed. He didn't show any ring rust, IMO. For the most part, Pulev's defense neutralized Fury's jab. Pulev also used his own jab efficiently, and occasionally scored with heavy power punches. I don't think that Pulev could beat Joshua, Wilder, Fury, or Povetkin. ...

Re: K. Pulev vs. H. Fury

. It is very, very simple, Hearn (or ODLH, or any Russian or German wealthy promoter) will always pay the judges (and refs) and they are always willing to be paid. This is always the case in boxing, everywhere in the world. That's because promoters invest a lot of money in building up their star fi...

Re: K. Pulev vs. H. Fury

I regard Pulev as being one notch above Fury in ability. Assuming Pulev fights up to his ability level, he will beat Fury on points. That's because both guys are jabbers and stand-up orthodox boxers, with Pulev possessing superior strength, aggression, and power. Fury is chiefly a runner and a jabbe...

Why wasn't Ali-Bugner 2 held in London, instead of Kuala Lumpur?

Back to my research on Bugner's career. Thanks for your patience. Anyway, when Don King and Ali had Bugner lined up as a title opponent in 1975, you'd think that Wembley Stadium would be the obvious locale. The Brits hadn't had a heavyweight title fight in England since 1996. But instead, this one g...

Re: Jimmy Young?

1. How do you think Jimmy should rank? 2. Do you think that Jimmy Young is underrated? Please explain. The answer to question #1 depends on what you mean. If you mean an ATG, then Young doesn't count. He didn't have the goods to be an ATG of any sort. If you mean how does Young rank within his era,...

Re: Mystery of Michael Bentt?

I heard that Bentt suffered some kind of neurological damage as a pro. After his loss to Herbie Hide, the injury was discovered. So Bentt retired immediately. How is he doing today, BTW? Hope he's doing well for himself. He was smart to retire early. I apologize in that my question is somewhat off t...

David Izeqwire KO4 Bobby Czyz 1994: what happened?"

Did anyone see this fight? The magazines barely covered it. I want to know what happened.

Was Czyz really destroyed and beaten up, or did he quit because of an injury?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Re: Larry Holmes vs Alfredo Evangelista, 1978

Holmes looked masterful on this night. He showed the world that the changing of the heavyweight guard had taken place by beating Evangelista with greater ease, efficiency and decisiveness than Ali had done only a year prior. Holmes controlled everything with his left jab, which as fast, powerful, an...

Re: Corrie Sanders vs Roy Jones, The Fight That Almost Happened

Believe it or not, I think Sanders could have turned Jones into another early round knockout victim. When Sanders landed with that lightning fast left-swipe/hook, everyone went down. I don't think Roy could have withstood a single one of those fast power punches. But then again, maybe Jones could ha...

Ideal distance for 1-2 punch on standing hyperflex (jab & right)

Hi coaches. Can you give me some advice? I'm hitting a stand-up hyperflex punching bag in my living room. First time I've worked out in years, and I'm just striking the left jab and straight, light right cross. I move my feet in a semi-circle in front of the bag, shifting from left-to-right, then ri...

Re: Jimmy Young vs Smokin' Joe Frazier, in their primes.

Frazier would be way too much for Young, if they had fought in their primes. I think that Jimmy -- due to his slipperiness and defense -- might have been able to hang in there until the final bell though.

Frazier by wide UD, but he doesn't look so great chasing Young around.

Just for the record, I got the Everlast. New bag through Amazon.

So far, feels great! It's a nice feeling to get those hands moving again. Let's see how long the bag is good for. At the price, it was worth it.

Re: How good was Jack O'Halloran?

I don't think Jack O'Halloran was ever in an enough high profile fight in his career to have the "Tale of the Tape". published in a newspaper at least. But at age 26 yrs for the fight with Bugner in 1969, he weighed in at " 17 st and 8 three-fourths lbs") = 246 and three-fourths...

Re: How good was Jack O'Halloran?

Manuel Ramos's career is very interesting as well. Going into the Frazier fight, the guy was getting respect in the US and Latin America. A crackling puncher with hefty size, Ramos came up the hard way. Most of his early and middle career was fought in Mexico City and Los Angeles. My guess is that t...

Re: How good was Jack O'Halloran?

Years ago, someone put a film of O'Halloran's fight with Foreman on youtube. It's since been taken down. I would have loved to see that. That O'Hallaron even lasted five rounds against Foreman tells something about Jack's durability. Reaching the fifth round while taking Foreman's bombs is remarkabl...

O'Halloran was never known for his jab, as best as I know. In his prime, he might have had a reputation for good punch resistance, but I'm speculating.

Mostly O'Halloran was known for his size. By 1970s standards, he was a giant.

Yes, easily. At any point in his career, Quarry would have beaten O'Halloran. Possibly by knockout too.

Re: John Conteh (WBC) v Victor Galindez (WBA)

I remember vague talk about Monzon stepping up to challenge Conteh for the WBC light heavyweight title. Personally, I'm skeptical that Monzon could have succeeded against Conteh. We're talking about a full 15 pounds of additional weight for Carlos. He probably would have been sluggish had he moved u...
