Ad Wolgast vs Battling Nelson indie film
Good afternoon gents. I don't really post here much. Just spreading the word to try and fund raise for a fellow boxing forum goer, who is making a film about Ad Wolgast vs Battling Nelson. He's made the film but needs a few grand to cover imaging rights and asked if we could share anywhere it might ...

Re: Are fighters stronger and fitter now or weaker?
I think there is a different kind of strength that people can get from working really physical jobs on a farm, construction, wharfies etc from a young age that was present in people years ago when that was much more common. I don't think modern weights or training can replicate that, nor do I think...

No argument for me, Pep was the greater fighterAmbling Alp II wrote: ↑10 Sep 2023, 16:06 Saddler and Pep are arguable as to who is #1 and #2. Sanchez is a solid #3. After that some close calls. Vincente Saldivar always gets overlooked on these lists and has a good case for being #4.

Re: If Ali and Louis are #1 and #2, who's #3?
This is one of the FEW TIMES that I agree with Ambling Alp. Lennox Lewis caught the great Evander Holyfield in decline, not in his prime. The great Mike Tyson when he came back from jail was a circus to begin with. And those are his two biggest names on his resume. Tyson nor Holyfield would have ne...

Re: If Ali and Louis are #1 and #2, who's #3?
The beating big names is very deceiving. You have to look at the stages of a guys career. Beating Holyfield and Tyson when he did is not the same as beating them close to their primes. Plus he had two losses to less than great fighters. To lesser degree, he was also fortunate to get the decision ag...

Really tough call, because neither faced a proper middleweight of that class in their prime.

Alexis Arguello vs Leonel Hernandez
Hernandez movement gave him a little trouble in the early rounds but Arguello starts to measure him better through 4 and 5 and starts to break him down from 6 onwards.

Re: Maxie Rosenbloom vs Tommy Loughran
Amazing that these two never fought. Looks as though Loughran started camapigning at heavyweight just around the time Rosenbloom started getting to that 15 round stage of his career but still disappointing it didn't happen. Real tough call but I'll go Maxie on a narrow points decision. Do it 5 times...

Absolutely loved Joan Guzman
As a big fan of Scott Harrison in the day the idea of him both excited me and scared me a little. Reckon he would have fornicating wrecked Harrison, if he didn't end up getting in the bother he did.

Andre Ward vs Bernard Hopkins
Both great fighters, who briefly topped the p4p list. Both tough as old boots, crafty as hell and ring IQ off the charts. Ideal fight at 168lb, which was Andres natural weight class and Bernard fought either side of it. Ward 6'0, Hopkins 6'1". Genuinely couldn't call it myself, other than to sa...
