Re: Fights where the ref affected the result
If the referee ain't Frank Cappucino does Gatti vs Ward 1 get stopped in the 9th round?
That moment when Ward is battering him, and Lampley was screaming "Stop it Frank, You can stop it anytime!" I think a lot of referees definitely would've at that moment. Justifiably.

Re: Kelly Pavlik vs Carl Froch
I gotta go with Froch who the had mental toughness to get the most out of himself for a longer period of time, and I gotta assume therefore had the extra mental toughness to pull out a close fight as well. Both at their very best Pavlik may be a smidgen better than Froch in terms of skill, but Froch...

Re: Fights where the ref affected the result
I'm gonna say Pac vs Marquez too.
I think a great deal of referees would've stopped the fight on that 3rd knockdown. Thank God it didn't happen that way.

Re: Billy Conn versus Ron Lyle
I suspect it'd be similar to the 1st fight with Louis in that Conn would be way out ahead, and controlling Lyle throughout the majority of the fight, but he'd have to continue to fight perfectly all night long because one slip up and it's curtains. I suspect that slip up would happen somewhere in th...

Re: Johnny Tapia versus Nonito Donaire
I'd favor Donaire. He had greater power, greater skill and probably greater speed. Tapia had a hell of a chin, and was a gutsy performer who'd keep getting right in your face, and giving you all you could handle, and he'd do the same to Donaire, but Donaire could indeed handle it I think, and come o...

Re: Golovkin is stepping away for “an indefinite period.”
I don't know why it's an "Indefinite period". At his age he either needs to be done or not done. Making a comeback 2 years from now would be a horrible idea. Good point. Either or. Retire for keeps, or stick around for at least one more bout. Personally, I'd Love to see him versus Money M...

Patterson definitely would've. That's why he didn't f*ck with that one.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑29 May 2023, 12:58 coming straight back from 4 years of inactivity? probably ingo beats him tbh
Honestly I suspect Patterson might've beat him in 1956 too.

Re: Rating the Big Heavyweights
Jameel McCline was always an interesting guy to me. A big, HUGE guy that always fought in an almost timid way.
Even when he knocks out Michael Grant with the first punch he throws. He threw that punch as if he was absolutely terrified

Re: Rocky Marciano: The Golden 50-0-0
I suspect after a 4 year absence from the ring he would've gone life and death with Johansson and barely beaten him, if he beat him at all. Prime for Prime I'd imagine the Rock makes fairly easy work of Ingo, but in 1960 it would've been a very difficult fight for him I suspect. I'd still favor Rock...

Re: Chuck Wepner vs Tex Cobb
I'd think Wepner would probably have an inkling more skill, but it'd probably be offset by Cobb's significantly tougher chin, and constant pressure. I figure they'd each win a lot of rounds, and honestly either could win a close decision. If there's a stoppage it'd probably be cuts, and it'd be Cobb...

Re: Sean O'Grady versus Freddie Pendleton
I suspect fights between these 2 would be close bouts with either guy being in a position to win a decision at the end.
I'd lean toward O'Grady, but Pendleton would be right there with him so it's truly a 50/50 match.

I don't understand the point of this.
How could this possibly make money?
I mean Toney is one of my all time favorite fighters, and I wouldn't watch this for free. So who's the audience?

Re: Round-by-Round: Devin Haney vs. Vasiliy Lomachenko | ESPN PPV - May 20, 2023
Ok so I just watched this thing. First 3 rounds were all razor thin, but I always felt like the best shots getting in were Haney's body shots, and I had him winning all 3 rounds. Loma eked out Round 4 for me even though the TV crew seemed to largely favor Haney which I found interesting. Loma again ...

Re: Yaqui Lopez vs Sugar Ray Robinson
While I think Yaqui would give Sugar Ray absolutely everything he could handle, I think Ray at his best could outbox Lopez. I could certainly see Lopez stopping Ray as many of you do, but I think Robinson had the goods to beat a guy like Lopez. That being said, this is probably about the best level ...

If Haye fought the fight of his life he'd lose a decision. Otherwise he gets knocked out.
Holyfield is just flat out better than him.

Re: Was Ryder one of the toughest fights of Canelo ?
Basically it sounds like people are blowing it out of proportion because they expected Ryder to get blown away with ease, and he actually put up a bit of a fight. I'm still sure he was a ways off from winning. Hey Gil, heard you got 'lucky' yesterday. :OhYes: Possibly as lucky as I've ever gotten.
