Re: Most Frustrating Negotiations in History

Mayweather-Pacquiao for me - it would have been so much better in 2010 than when we got it.

Spence-Crawford after that - it's the #1 fight I want to see now, though I favour Crawford.

Re: Deontay Wilder vs. Andy Ruiz Jr. - Who wins?

Ruiz is the better, more skilled boxer and has faster hands. However, Wilder has the jab and movement to outbox Ruiz from the outside like he did in the first Stiverne fight. If Ruiz came in 265lb plus, he likely wouldn't have the workrate to win. If he came in under 260lb - and the lighter the bett...

Re: Joe Joyce vs. Joseph Parker | ESPN - September 24, 2022

I honestly think Parker's weight is a problem here and his best weight is about 20lb south of what he weighed in at. He has had stamina issues before and they are likely to be exacerbated by coming in this heavy. I was slightly favouring Joyce before, but now even moreso.

Re: 32 y/o Canelo vs 32 y/o GGG @ 160/168 - how this fight would go ?

Canelo didn't want to fight the 34 year old GGG. The 32 year old GGG would dismantle him far far worse than Bivol did. Canelo has a good record, but it's little more than that. What he desperately needs now is to beat both Bivol and Benavidez. Or go down as a drug taking, cherry picking, weight bul...

I laugh when idiots make fight predictions based on weigh in weights, especially heavyweights. I laugh when idiots pretend that others have made predictions based purely on physique or body weight, when in fact that never happened in any version of reality! Are there any other fictitious claims you...

The first thing that comes to mind is Marcos Maidana vs Amir Khan but I suppose it's not counted as current scene. But that one was a great one, the chemistry between Maidana and Khan was amazing. Ditto man that fight was incredible. If going back to 2000 is the “current scene” then Mosley vs Marga...

Re: GGG: "It would be the biggest win in my career. It would be the best thing that happened"

I only saw it once, Miguel Cotto's brother Jose hurt him pretty bad, but Canelo was only 19 years old at the time. he was probably a lot more vulnerable at 147 too. He must have been murdering himself to make weight. Yeah that might've played a factor too. He was still developing that full man stre...

Re: Deontay Wilder vs Robert Helenius in October?

Dropping that much weight at Wilder's age is a bad idea. Even at 215-220 I'd guess him at 5-7% bodyfat. You lose a lot going below that in terms of performance, power, etc, and it is dangerous to your brain. Wilder fighting at cruiser is a stupid idea. Nah, he's probably 10-12% which is super lean ...

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Gennadiy 'GGG' Golovkin III - DAZN PPV - September 17, 2022

Interesting take on the fight. I originally scored it a draw, but had GGG up 6-5 and scored the 12th for Canelo. Rewatching I had it 115-113 to GGG, giving him rounds 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 10 and 11. Your overall scores are fair enough. I like the picked rounds, except the 1st one. The start seemed all-Ca...

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Gennadiy 'GGG' Golovkin III - DAZN PPV - September 17, 2022

I rewatched the 2nd fight and had a draw. Interestingly, I scored it that way several times already. This ultimately proves for me, that the bout was pretty much either way going. In the 1st round Canelo throws mostly single power punches. Golovkin tries to calculate Canelo, he isn’t very active, C...

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Gennadiy 'GGG' Golovkin III - DAZN PPV - September 17, 2022

Canelos weight is the biggest issue here for me. Canelo just got too big and too cocky as a fuccking TANK vs Bivol.. Sacraficed footwork, Slipping, Speed and skill for plodding and whacking. Was willing to take bivols jab so got a seemingly damaged nose, that combined with his bulk for stamina issu...

Re: Will GGG try to emulate Bivol's game plan(blueprint) against Canelo ?

While I scored both fights for GGG, I'm pretty sure the vast majority thought Canelo won the second fight clear. Outside of GGG doing what Bivol did, there isn't much room for him to have a close fight with Canelo again. Canelo will likely come in his natural form with constant stalking pressure an...

Re: Will GGG try to emulate Bivol's game plan(blueprint) against Canelo ?

He'd be a fool to try. Bivol has height, reach, footspeed, handspeed, stamina and defensive advantages over a 40yo GGG. At 160lb I think GGG was the bigger puncher with the slightly better chin, but with years on the clock and at 168lb, I'm not sure that's the case anymore. GGG still has the better ...

Re: Style-wise how a fight between a 31 y/o GGG vs a 31 y/o Bivol would go at 175 lbs ?

It's a bit of a stretch considering GGG has only fought at middleweight. He was slightly post peak when Danny Jacobs gave him a close fight, troubling him with his faster hands and feet. Bivol would have the same advantages but probably no more power than Jacobs. I think a prime GGG takes Bivol's po...

Re: Cruiser weights that failed at heavyweight?

I think guys who are successful moving up in weight arr the ones with superior speed and skills, who aren't reliant on being bigger, stronger and more powerful than their opponents. Not a heavyweight, but Danny Green was a huge puncher and very durable at super middleweight and light heavyweight. To...

He's special but he's also been overrated IMO. I thought he lost the first GGG fight clearly, but performed way better in the rematch, which I scored a draw.

Fighters you were wrong about

Which boxers' careers were you way off-base about in your early assessments of them? Two that come to my mind are David Price and Tyson Fury. At the end of 2012 I favoured Price if the two fought and thought he was the better prospect. I saw Fury as a relatively light-hitting, undisciplined, weak-ch...

the only clear round canelo won was the 9th, seemed like his final stand type of round, because after that he had nothing in the final 3. bivol seemed pretty unphased in the 9th and just kind of contently covered up. i wonder if it was his plan to encourgage canelo to gas himself 118-110 for me I c...

Bivol-Canelo: how did you score it?

I just watched the fight and had it 118-112 to Bivol, giving Canelo the 4th and 9th and scoring rounds 2 and 3 even. I'd have no problem with someone scoring 2 and 3 for Canelo and having him up 3-1 after the 4th. 116-112 Bivol is a reasonable scorecard, if a little generous to Canelo. I thought the...

A landed punch that causes the fighter to go down is a knockdown. Whether he hit the gloves or not doesn't matter. I assumed that was the rule too - beating someone to the canvas with blocked shots should count. so, let's say dudes throw punches at the same time, one guy clips the others guys exten...

Re: Larry Holmes says there should be a 'size limit' on heavyweights!!!

For historical purposes I think the biggest division should always be called Heavyweight. "Super" is a word for children. The cruiserweight limit has already increased from 190 to 195. Perhaps it should be 200, but 225 is not practical in my lifetime, unless you have EO's philosophy which...

Re: What will Fury's weight be?

Here's another question - how tall are they?

Fury is listed as 6'9" and Whyte as 6'4". I think they're both around 1.5" shorter - Fury 6'7.5"-6'8" tops, Whyte is no taller than 6'2.5".
